The link below is a unit of English work for the next fortnight. This includes both reading and writing activities. If you can, the booklet could be printed out but this is not necessary to complete the activities. However, it will be necessary to use a laptop, tablet or smart phone for part of the session in order to read texts, instructions and activities.
The following is a suggested timetable for completing the English unit over the two week period.
Day 1: Read introduction to Pandora's box on pages 4-5 and do the activity on page 5: What do you think the box looked like?
Continue on to page 6: What do you think could be in the box?
Day 2: Continue reading the story on page 6. Draw the evil that came out of the box. Be creative!
Day 3: Activity on page 7: share the story with someone at home. Talk then write: Did you like this story? Why? You could even act it out for them.
Day 4: Referring to page 8, sketch Zeus and label the key features.
Day 5: Referring to page 9, answer the questions about the story.
Day 1: Vocabulary. Referring to pages 10-12, complete all the activities to do with learning new vocabulary (We are using vocabulary Victor to help us!)
Day 2: Apostrophes. Referring to page 13, do the activity to do with apostrophes.
Day 3: Poetry! Pages 14-15 Read the poem 'The Magic Box' and answer the questions on page 15
Day 4: Referring to pages 16-17, make a magic box!
Day 5: Write a magic box poem! Edit and improve.
Optional extra writing tasks:
Re-tell the story of Pandora's box.
Innovate your own version of Pandora's box: what else might be inside the box? What are the consequences for opening the box? What happens in the end? You could use your magic box poems to help give you ideas.
Draw a picture of Pandora and write a character description.
